Nappy Information & Care
It is at the core of Tots Bots philosophy to produce the best essentials for parenting on the market. They develop products based on what they believe modern parents actually need and to help you enjoy your baby to the fullest, in as much of a natural way possible.
Nappies
This is the absorbent part of the nappy system, which is shaped like a disposable and elasticised for a snug fit. Our Easy Fit one piece nappies have the convenience of easy on easy off.
Boosters
These hold more liquid and an extra booster placed between the nappy and the liner can further increase the amount of wetness the nappy can hold. These are great for heavy wetters and night time use.
Liners
These are flushable, biodegradable and septic tank friendly. The liner is placed on top of the nappy and booster so it is against the baby’s skin. These are designed to draw wetness away from baby and catch the solids which can then be simply flushed down the toilet along with the liner.
Accessories
To complement our Easy Fit nappies we have a range of additional products to make your nappy life a whole lot easier.
• Flushable Liners
• Natural Baby Wipes
• Changing Mats
Textiles
At Tots Bots they love textiles almost as much as they love babies. So all of the fabrics used in their nappies are covered by Oeko-tex 100 certification. This is your guarantee that no harmful chemicals have been used in the production process. Tots Bots make their nappies from several fabrics where each fabric has its’ own unique properties. Read on if you want a bit more information on the fabrics.
Cotton – the all round performer
Naturally occurring cellulose fibre cotton has been used for centuries. It makes excellent terry towelling due to its absorbent nature. Cellulose is a carbohydrate, which provides negatively charged groups on its surface edge, which attract the positively charged water molecules. Terry works by giving a far greater surface area for these water molecules to be attracted to.
Bamboo Fibre – silky soft
One of a new breed of ‘green’ man-made cellulose fibres. Similar to classic viscose, the cross section of bamboo fibre is covered in tiny micro holes giving superior absorption and breathability to cotton. It is also incredibly soft with a feeling akin to cashmere/silk and has natural antibacterial properties. Bamboo is a highly sustainable resource, which grows without the need for agrochemicals and has a very short growth cycle. The processing is done within strict environmental guidelines according to ISO 9000 & 14000.
Microfibre – quick dry, stay soft
A purely synthetic material, micro fibre terry has one of the highest liquid retention capacities around. Superfine strands of polyester provide a much increased surface area to attract water molecules. Due to the unique way in which it absorbs, micro fibre dries incredibly quickly. It also stays completely soft even after washing in hard water. The resulting nappy gently reduces energy use in the home by negating the need for tumble drying.
MultiTex – fabric combinations
With Tots Bots MultiTex core there are three fabrics used…
Bamboo Velour Lining – this is the softest fabric they have ever made for their nappies. Rapidly absorbs liquid through the liner, away from baby’s skin.
Micro Fibre Core – adds capacity by absorbing twice as much liquid as cotton, this is as thirsty as you will ever need.
Technical Outer Skin – this is a slim fitting fabric with multidirectional stretch, the nappy fits like a glove every time. The Active Flex technology helps hold wetness in the core whilst allowing baby’s skin to breathe.
Fastenings
Aplix – fastens just like a disposable nappy with squares of hook & loop (Velcro). Most preferred by dads!
Nappy Rash
Your reusable nappies are no more likely to cause nappy rash than a disposable nappy. A survey conducted by Bristol University into nappy rash concluded that ‘disposable nappies give little protection’ and that ‘the types of nappy worn did not emerge as a significant factor’. Regardless of whether you use cloth or disposables, all nappies should be changed regularly no matter how much moisture they may absorb. This is to prevent bacterial build up in the nappy which is the main cause of nappy rash or skin irritation.
